Synopsis
The recent military takeovers in West Africa and the Sahel region have raised concerns about ongoing challenges of security, democratisation, decolonisation and economic-self determinism. Our panel of experts delve into the remote causes of these military led takeovers. The panelist will discuss political, economic, environmental and social injustice, that served as a pretext for the wave of military takeovers in the region. The panelists will the also examine the legal, contextual and practical aspects of external actors' involvement.
While the situation in West Africa and the Sahel remains tense, it is unclear whether we will see more military takeovers in Africa. However, these incidences have highlighted the importance of addressing neo-colonial concerns and inadequate economic opportunities for the populace. The panelists will also answer question about what African governments and their external partners can lean for these political earthquakes. Indeed, there is a need to priorities inclusive growth, representative governance, respect for human rights and sustainable development.
