In the first episode of our podcast series, we had the pleasure of interviewing Akinfemi Makinde to discuss the depiction of Yoruba traditions in pop culture. Makinde shared valuable insights about Yoruba cosmology, ontologies, mysticism and metaphysics. We also delve into perceptions and practice of Yoruba traditions in the urban culture, digital spaces, the in wider diaspora communities from the transatlantic trade era to the present emigrants.

Makinde has BA in African Literature, a Masters in Comparative Religions, and is currently a PhD candidate in Philosophy & Bioethics at the University of Salzburg. His wealth of knowledge for the subject matter made for an engaging and enlightening discussion. Listeners will leave with a broader understanding and appreciation for Yoruba culture and spirituality.
